highlight of the drive

walking up around 6:30am. I grab coffee, splash some water on my face and start the checklist. I need guitar strings, batteries and to give both guitars some attention after a long set in the mountains the night before. 190 miles of driving to do across California before I can check into my hotel. After calculating gas and budget for the trip I start my morning prep routine, pack the van and hit the road. I have a four hour drive down through the valley and into the Bay Area. It’s right after Christmas and traffic is starting to relax back to its normal passive aggressive demeanor. Thank goodness!! After errands and usual traffic delays I end up at my hotel with 30 min to shower and get the guitars ready. So about 15 min for me and 15 for the guitars. I scramble out the door and start the 40 min drive to the venue which is a beautiful spot right on the Napa river/bay inlet with the boats in the docks still sporting Christmas lights. At this particular show I’m fortunate enough to have a super kewl sound guy and roady to shuffle my gear and myself inside. After it was all set up and ready I was about 5 min late to start time but that gets made up in the end. And just like that 3 hours later I’m back in the vehicle and hotel bound. I was again fortunate when I got back to my suite after some smooth talking I was able to finagle late night access to the hot tub. So 1am soaking did happen along side a little wine and the piece of cake I received for singing happy birthday to a 20 something and her friends at the show.  So today I got my cake and yeah I ate it too!
